After the Second World War, Hermann Wunderlich developed a new design language for the reconstruction of department stores , which not only did justice to the functional requirements, but also in the sense of a “ corporate identity ” of modern times. The aluminum / glass grid facade he developed and created in various shades of green for the department stores of Kaufhof AG has meanwhile been recognized as an important testimony of its time and has already been placed under monument protection in many cases. A total of over 40 conversions and reconstructions of Kaufhof buildings in German cities (including Darmstadt , Düsseldorf , Frankfurt , Freiburg , Hamburg , Hanau , Kassel , Krefeld , Ludwigshafen , Mülheim , Nuremberg , Saarbrücken , Wuppertal-Elberfeld ) can be traced back to him. But he was also active in urban development and in the conception of villa buildings (especially in Cologne-Marienburg ) - mostly in collaboration with Reinold Klüser .
