history

The Waldhufendorf Hermsdorf was probably founded in the second half of the 12th century and was first mentioned in 1460 as "Hermannsdorff". The place name means "village of a Herman". Ecclesiastically, the main part of Hermsdorf has always been parish to Bernsdorf. Oberhermsdorf, located to the east and spatially separated from Hermsdorf, was ecclesiastically divided between Oberlungwitz and Gersdorf. In the years 1517 and 1667 a Vorwerk was mentioned in Hermsdorf , which was later desolate.

Regarding the manorial rule , the administrative village of Hermsdorf with Oberhermsdorf belonged to the Schönburg rule of Waldenburg , from which it was spatially separated by the court of Rüsdorf . After an administrative reform was carried out in the area of the Schönburg recession in 1878, Hermsdorf came to the newly founded Saxon authorities in Glauchau in 1880 . In 1911 part of Oberhermsdorf was reclassified to Oberlungwitz. Between 1913 and 1960 the Hohenstein-Ernstthal-Oelsnitz tram ran through Oberhermsdorf with the Lungwitzbach viaduct , the siding to the Uhlig mill and the Uhlig switch . In 1927, a motorsport race took place for the first time on the old Sachsenring circuit northeast of Hermsdorf. The end of the course led over today's federal highway 180 to the Queckenberg curve. In the period that followed, the Queckenberg settlement in the valley of the Hüttengrundbach was built on Hermsdorfer Flur . On April 13, 1945, Hermsdorf was occupied by American troops, who surrendered the place to Soviet troops on June 14, 1945.

As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Hermsdorf became part of Hohenstein-Ernstthal in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Hohenstein-Ernstthal from 1990 and in 1994 in the Chemnitzer district Land and 2008 in the district of Zwickau. On August 1, 1994, Hermsdorf was incorporated into Bernsdorf. In 1995 the new course of the Sachsenring opened, in the vicinity of which there was an industrial park on Hermsdorfer Flur between the Queckenberg and Oberhermsdorf housing estate. In 2010 Hermsdorf celebrated its 550 year first mention.
