Hervé-Maria Le Cléac'h SSCC (born March 11, 1915 in Dinéault , Brittany , France , † August 14, 2012 in Papeete , French Polynesia ) was Bishop of Taiohae o Tefenuaenata .

Life

Hervé-Maria Le Cléac'h joined the order of the Arnstein Fathers and was ordained a priest on December 18, 1943. He then went on a mission. In 1970 he became Apostolic Administrator of the Taiohae Diocese in Nuku Hiva .

In 1973 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed Bishop of Taiohae on the island of Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas . He received his episcopal ordination on June 24, 1973, the Archbishop of Papeete , Michel-Gaspard Coppenrath ; Co - consecrators were Pierre-Paul-Émile Martin SM , Archbishop of Nouméa , and Laurent Fuahea , Bishop of Wallis and Futuna . During his tenure, the diocese of Taihoe was renamed the Diocese of Taiohae o Tefenuaenata . On May 31, 1985, Guy Chevalier was assigned to him as coadjutor. His resignation was granted in 1989 by John Paul II .

Hervé-Maria Le Cléac'h designed the (unofficial) flag of the Marquesas Islands in 1984; officially the flag of French Polynesia or the French tricolor must be used. He was committed to the culture and language of the Marquesas ; he translated psalms and liturgical texts into the indigenous language. He was heavily involved in Terre des Hommes and was called "Teikimeiteaki a Punatete" ("Prince of Heaven") by the locals.
