history

In the Herzkämper Mulde, the coal seams of the Ruhr coal area reached to the surface of the earth and were therefore mined early on. In the Mulde are some of the oldest evidence of the mining history of the Ruhr area, individual mines can be documented up to 1450.

The Buschbank and Sieper and Mühler mines between Am Bischof and New America are now in the forest, where only overgrown soil structures such as pingen and spoil heaps are reminiscent of them. The Hütterbank mine was near Sankt Moritz, the Sieper mine dump and iron ore smelting sites near Ringelsiepen (around 1650).

The light hole in the Herzkämper Erbstollen (1773) is one of the underground relics of mining . The Herzkämper Erbstollen was replaced by the Dreckbänker Erbstollen in 1860 . The tunnel opening of the Kreßsieper Erbstollen (Christsieper Erbstollen) from 1731 is still visible .

The village of Alter Schee was a customs office between the county of Mark and the Duchy of Berg and had a loading station in front of the northern exit of the Scheetunnel on the Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen – Hattingen and Schee – Silschede railway . Historic coal paths run through the Herzkämper Mulde.
