Heinz Schuster-Šewc

Heinz Schuster-Šewc ( Upper Sorbian Hinc Šewc ; born February 8, 1927 in Purschwitz , Amtshauptmannschaft Bautzen , Saxony ; † February 10, 2021 in Leipzig ) was a Sorbian Slavist , Sorabist and university professor.

Career

After studying Slavic Studies, he did his doctorate and then his habilitation . Schuster-Šewc was from 1964 university professor for Sorabic and Slavic linguistics and director of the Institute for Sorabic at the University of Leipzig . He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow . From 1988 he was a full member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences . He was a foreign member of the Polish Academy of Scholarship in Cracow .

In 1980 Schuster-Šewc was awarded the State Ćišinski Prize .
