Hindi Zahra ( Central Atlas Tamazight ⵀⵉⵏⴷⵉ ⵣⴰⵀⵕⴰ Hindi Zahṛa ; born January 20, 1979 in Khouribga , Morocco ; actually Zahra Hindi) is a French - Moroccan singer-songwriter . Her repertoire consists of songs in English and in Tamazight . Occasionally she works as an actress.

biography

Hindi Zahra is the daughter of a Moroccan woman and a French man. At 15, she left school and moved to Paris to live with her father, a former member of the army . At the age of 18 she worked in the Louvre . In addition, she wrote her first lyrics and melodies. In 2005 Zahra, who taught herself all the instruments as a multi-instrumentalist, composed 50 songs. In 2010, eleven of them were released on the Blue Note label's debut album Handmade . The video for the opening piece Beautiful Tango was shot by French director Tony Gatlif . The song Stand Up was selected for an advertising campaign by Western Union Bank in 2010 . In November 2010 Hindi Zahra won the Prix ​​Constantin for the best album. In February 2011 she won the Victoires de la Musique music prize for the best world music album. In May 2011 she performed at the Paris Olympia and in June 2011 at the La Défense Jazz Festival .

The song Imik si Mik from the album Handmade was used by Chanel in a 2013 commercial with Gisele Bündchen . The song Kiss & Thrills from the same album can be heard in the film 300 Words German from the same year .

In 2014 Hindi Zahra worked as an actress in the films The Narrow Frame of Midnight by Tala Hadid and The Cut by Fatih Akın .

Zahra's second solo album Homeland was released in April 2015 .
