Hochfirstturm

The Hochfirstturm is a steel observation tower on the Hochfirst , a 1196.9  m above sea level. NHN high wooded mountain in the southern Black Forest near Titisee-Neustadt in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district of Baden-Württemberg .

Geographical location

The Hochfirstturm stands on the summit of the Hochfirst on the boundary of the climatic health resort Saig , a district of the municipality of Lenzkirch, about 1 km to the south . About 2.5 km to the west of the tower is the village of the same name Titisee Titisee and 2.5 km north-east Neustadt, both districts of the city Titisee-Neustadt. Hiking trails lead from the three places mentioned, and a paved road up the mountain from Neustadt . The mountain inn Hochfirst is not far from the tower .

Structure and use

The high ridge tower built in 1890 on the initiative of the Black Forest Association Neustadt by the Benrath company H. August Flender in steel frame construction is 25 meters high and also guyed by guy . It stands on a natural stone plinth, originally from a wooden tower built in 1888 and destroyed by a hurricane in 1890 . As a structural feature, the tower has a double spiral staircase covered with corrugated iron with separate entrance and exit. It has been a listed building since 1989 .

From May 2014 to March 2015, the round viewing platform attached to the tower head was closed due to static problems. At the beginning of 2018 it became known that the antennas on the tower represent too high a radiation exposure for visitors . Therefore, the tower was closed to visitors, but reopened at the end of April of the same year after new measurements.

The Hochfirstturm now also has transmitting antennas for directional radio and mobile radio .
