Homosexuality in Denmark

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Denmark today, homosexuality is widely accepted, both legally and socially. The Danish parties unity list Red-Green , the Socialistisk Folkeparti , the Social Democrats , Det RadISCHE Venstre and the Liberal Alliance support homosexual rights, while the right-wing parties are largely critical.

legality

In 1933 homosexual acts were legalized. The age of consent is 15 years and is therefore equal to heterosexuals today .

Anti-discrimination laws

There is also an anti-discrimination law that prohibits the unequal treatment of people based on their sexual orientation. Homosexual people are also not excluded from military service.

Recognition of same-sex couples

Denmark passed a law on registered partnerships on June 7, 1989 , making it the first country in the world to allow same-sex civil partnerships to be registered.

People living in same-sex registered partnerships are allowed to adopt their partner's biological children. On June 2, 2006, the majority of the Folketing decided against the law, which had been in force since 1997, which banned artificial insemination and thus allows lesbian couples access to sperm banks .

According to an opinion poll within the European Union in 2006, 69 percent of Danes are in favor of same-sex partnerships; this puts Denmark in third place after the Netherlands (82 percent) and Sweden (71 percent).

According to the survey, 44 percent of Danes would agree to the adoption right. The joint adoption of illegitimate children by partner couples was allowed in the Danish Parliament on March 18, 2009.

The Danish government under Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt initiated the introduction of the right to same-sex marriage in 2012 . The law came into force on June 15, 2012.

In October 2015, the Danish government introduced a bill to the Parliament to extend the right to same-sex marriage to Greenland . On April 1, 2016, the law on opening marriage in Greenland came into force.

The Danish Lutheran Church has allowed same-sex couples to be married in church.
