The Honda MTX 80 is an all-terrain light motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer Honda from the 1980s.

First, an air-cooled model MTX 80 C (type HD06) came onto the market in 1982 . The motorcycle is decelerated at the front and rear by drum brakes , at the front by a Bowden cable ; At the rear, a brake linkage on a lever does its work. Since 1984 the MTX 80 R (type HD08) with water cooling has been offered as a significantly modified version . The facelifted MTX 80 R II (type HD09), which has a front disc brake , came onto the market even later . The MTX 80 R II is equipped with the much stronger frame of the MTX 200 R. In addition, the engine was revised and received an exhaust control for better performance in the lower and middle speed range, the maximum output increased to a full 10 hp. The MTX models are one of the few motorcycles with a two-stroke engine that Honda offered on the German market.

The output of the MTX 80 varies between 6 and 7.4 kW (8.3-10 hp) depending on the year of construction. The MTX 80 has separate lubrication. The lubricant for the engine and the fuel are housed in separate containers.

Compared to the previous model MT-8 , the MTX has larger wheels and a relatively long, comfortable seat. It also has a central strut at the rear, while the MT-8 has two struts on the swing arm sides. A round (HD06 + HD08) or square (HD09) headlight with a high and low beam function is integrated into a small paneling for lighting. The MTX has 12-volt electrical systems with indicators and horn as well as a combined ignition and steering lock in the middle of the fittings. The speedometer is driven mechanically by means of a shaft and a small gearbox on the front wheel.

The Honda MTX 80 R has a seat height of approx. 87 cm and a total height of approx. 115 cm. The spring travel is approx. 23 cm and at the front approx. 20 cm. The shock absorber itself does not have 23 cm of spring travel. The long spring travel is caused by the deflection of the shock absorber mount. The ease of use enables beginners of enduro sports to have a good but also powerful machine. It is very suitable for beginners with a height of approx. 1.70 m.
