Huși ([ huʃʲ ]; ) is a town in Romania in Vaslui County .
Geographical location
The city is located in the east of the country at an altitude of 120 meters on the border with the Republic of Moldova . The border river Prut and Moldau is 9 kilometers to the east. The city is connected to the railway network via the Iași - Galați line .
history
The place is probably as a colony of Hussites founded.
The Peace of the Prut , which Peter the Great had to sign here on July 23, 1711, after his troops had previously been trapped by the Turks near the city, is of historical importance .
In 1900 the population was 15,404, a quarter of whom were Jews .
Huși is the birthplace of the painter Ștefan Dimitrescu .
The city of Huși is the bishopric of the eponymous diocese ( Episcopia Hușilor ) of the Romanian Orthodox Church .
