IC 4358 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is around 144 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 55,000 light years . It probably forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair together with IC 971 .
The galaxies NGC 5442 , IC 4361 , IC 4364 , IC 4368 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered in April 1905 by the German astronomer Max Wolf .
