The Tapiche district is located in the Requena Province in the Loreto region in northeastern Peru . The district was established on July 2, 1943. It extends over an area of ​​2091 km². The 2017 census counted 955 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 804, in 2007 it was 1042. The district administration is located in the 119  m high village of Iberia with 519 inhabitants (as of 2017). Iberia is located 77 km southwest of the provincial capital, Requena .

Geographical location

The Tapiche district is located in the central east of the Requena Province. It extends along the central reaches of the Río Tapiche above the confluence of the Río Blanco and the catchment area of the Quebrada Yanayacu, right tributary of the Río Tapiche. In the district is the Tapiche Reserve , a 15.4 km² private reserve that can be visited by tourists.

The Tapiche district borders in the southwest on the Alto Tapiche district , in the northwest on the Emilio San Martín district , in the north on the Requena district and in the east on the Soplin district .
