Ignacio María González Gatti (born May 14, 1982 in Montevideo , Uruguay ), called Ignacio González or Nacho González , is a Uruguayan football player .

The intelligent, tech-savvy and goal-scoring playmaker has a strong personality and a large overview of the game. He is a so-called "two-footed" player who also has a good header game.

Career

society

Midfielder González began his professional career in 2002 with Danubio FC , for whom he scored 45 goals in 156 games in eight years. With the club from his hometown Montevideo he won the Uruguayan championship in 2004 and 2007 .

At the beginning of 2008 he switched to AS Monaco on loan , but where he could not leave a lasting impression in five games, three of which came on late. At least he was able to mark the goal of the 1-1 equalizer in his first game from the start against Olympique Marseille .

In 2008 he moved to Valencia CF , but was initially loaned to Newcastle United for the 2008/09 season . The player's transfer is believed to be one of the reasons Kevin Keegan stepped down as Newcastle coach in September 2008. The loan deal happened without the consent of Keagan and at the express request of managing director Dennis Wise , who had previously only seen it on YouTube videos. For Newcastle he only played two league games at the beginning of the season. In the further course of the season he was no longer used due to a four-month injury and his adjustment difficulties.

For the 2009/10 season he returned to Valencia CF, for which he still had not played a single game until 2010. González was therefore loaned to the Greek first division club PAE Levadiakos in the second half of the season and finally got regular match practice there again.

For the 2010/11 season he was loaned to first division promoted UD Levante . In July 2011 he was signed by Standard Liège , where he signed a two-year contract. In the following two seasons he recorded 31 games and eight goals.

His next stop was Hércules Alicante in Spain. For the club, which he joined in January 2013 as part of a loan deal, he played at least 12 games and scored one goal. For the 2013/14 season he returned to Uruguay and joined Nacional Montevideo . There he played 19 first division games in the 2013/14 season and scored four goals. He was also used three times (no goal) in the Copa Libertadores. In the 2014/15 season he won the Uruguayan Championship with Nacional and was used nine times (no goal) in the Primera División. This was followed in the 2015/16 season with 21 top division appearances (five goals), two appearances (no goal) in the Copa Sudamericana 2015 and three matches (no goal) in the Copa Libertadores 2016 . At the end of July 2016, he moved to the Montevideo Wanderers . So far (as of August 18, 2016) he has been used there twice (no goal) in the Copa Sudamericana 2016 .

National team

With the youth teams of Uruguay González could show little success. With the U-20 selection, he missed the qualification for the 2003 Junior World Cup and also with the U-23 selection, he could not qualify for the 2004 Olympic Games .

His first game for the Uruguayan national team , he completed under national coach Gustavo Ferrín on March 1, 2006 in the friendly against England , where he came on in the 88th minute for Diego Pérez . In 2007 he took part with Uruguay in his first major tournament, the Copa América . After being substituted in towards the end of the game in two group games, he was used in the semi-finals against Brazil when the score was 2-1 from the second half. Uruguay managed to equalize through Sebastián Abreu and finally saved themselves on penalties. In the penalty shootout, which Uruguay lost 4-5, González was able to convert his penalty, unlike his teammates Diego Forlán and Diego Lugano .

On August 20, 2008 González scored his first international goal against Japan .

In the course of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup , he played five of 18 games and was later included in the Uruguayan squad for the 2010 World Cup . After he was still in the starting line-up in the first group game against France , he was no longer used in the following games. His team finished fourth in the tournament.

His 19th and so far last assignment for the Celeste is dated August 11, 2010. (As of July 4, 2013)
