Ikerasak [ iˈkɜʁasak ] (according to the old spelling Ikerasak ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the district of Kangaatsiaq in the municipality of Qeqertalik .

location

Ikerasak is located on the island of Akip Qeqertarsua in an archipelago in the south of the district. The closest settlement is Attu seven kilometers south.

history

Ikerasak was inhabited in the 18th century, but died out in the epidemic of 1785/86. In 1793 nine adults and many children and widows lived there again. Five of them were hunters and all of them were not baptized. In 1799 four families lived in Ikerasak. The place was uninhabited in the 1820s. In 1831 38 people were counted. In 1915 the place had 53 inhabitants. In addition to six residential buildings, there was a school chapel from 1907, which was built as a half-timbered building with a peat wall facade and roofing felt. Eleven hunters lived in the village, one of whom was a catechist on the side. In 1930 a new school chapel was built and later the place received some fish houses. In 1960 the population reached its maximum with 114 people. In 1970 there were only 18 left and Ikerasak was given up the following year.
