Ilkka Heikkinen (born November 13, 1984 in Rauma ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with TPS Turku from the Liiga since May 2016 .
Career
Ilkka Heikkinen began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Lukko Rauma , for whose professional team he was active in the SM-liiga from 2003 to 2007 . Previously, he was already on loan for Uudenkaupungin Jää-Kotkat in the 2002/03 season in the second-rate Mestis to 18 missions, in which he scored two goals and made three assists. In the 2003/04 season , the defender played parallel to the game with Lukko in the Mestis for TuTo Hockey and the Finnish U20 national team .
From 2007 to 2009 Heikkinen was on the ice for the HIFK Helsinki in the SM-liiga. At the capital club he was able to develop continuously and was in the 2007/08 season with 26 assists in the main round the best assists among the defenders of the Finnish top division. Then the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League became aware of him. For this he ran in seven games in the 2009/10 season , in which he remained free of points and punishment. The entire rest of the season the Finnish international spent with their farm team , the Hartford Wolf Pack from the American Hockey League , for which he scored 38 points in 72 games.
For the 2010/11 season Heikkinen was committed from HK Sibir Novosibirsk from the Continental Hockey League . A year later he returned to Sweden and was signed by newly promoted Växjö Lakers Hockey . In the 2011/12 season he was the most successful defender in the Swedish Elitserien with 18 goals . Heikkinen has signed a two year contract with the in spring 2012 HC Lugano and played from now in the Swiss National League A . He collected a total of 53 scorer points in 94 NLA parties before he returned to the KHL in June 2014 and was signed by Salawat Julajew Ufa for two years. After the end of the 2014/15 season, however, he left the club and returned to the Växjö Lakers.
International
For Finland , Heikkinen took part in the Euro Hockey Tour in 2008 and 2012 . He scored an assist in eight games and received four penalty minutes.
