Ill Niño is a nu-metal - band from New Jersey , USA , with influences from Latin music works. These can be seen in places where percussion and the acoustic guitar are the leading instruments. The members come from different countries in Latin America .
history
The band was founded in 1999 under the name " El Niño ". But since another band was already using this name, they changed theirs to “Ill Niño”, which means “sick child” or “illegal child”.
In July 2006, the band broke their contract with Roadrunner Records because they felt they no longer got the attention they needed from the record label. In the same month Ill Niño announced on their website that they had signed a record deal with Cement Shoes / Vivendi and were currently in the process of recording an EP that would include five songs - two new and three covers.
After several postponements, the album Enigma was released on March 11, 2008 in the USA and on March 28 in German-speaking countries. After the tour that followed, Ill Niño announced that they would be separating from their label.
In July 2010 the new album Dead New World should be released, but its release was postponed to October 2010. A new song called Scarred (My Prison) was previously released on their Myspace page and a free sampler from their new record label Victory Records . In addition, the band played in Germany in 2010 at Wacken Open Air , Summer Breeze and various concerts. The band had to cancel their performances at the Trebur Open Air and the Rockarea Festival at short notice due to a back injury to Machado.
The album Dead New World was then released on October 29, 2010.
A world tour with concerts ranging from festivals to music cellar performances took place from January 18 to July 3, 2011.
In February 2012, the band announced that they would go back to the studio to create a sixth album. She also visited Germany for an appearance at the Hardbeat Festival in Lippstadt .
In March 2014, the band announced on Facebook that they would play on the Rockstar Mayhem Festival Tour. Along with this information, she announced the title of the new album Till Death, La Familia , and the release date (US release July 22, 2014).
In January 2019 a new single "Sangre" was released. However, the line-up was not with Machado, Luster, Verduzco and Santiago. Instead, Chavarri, Pina and Couto recorded the single with three new members (Marcos Neal, Jess Dehoyos and Sal Dominquez). Furthermore, Messrs. Machado, Luster and Verduzco apparently submitted a trademark application because they own the majority of the company of the Ill Niño LLC group. In other words: The band name should be protected. Drummer Chavarri tried briefly to claim that he was the sole owner of the Ill Niño brand.
Later in March 2019, a 53-page lawsuit against drummer Chavarri surfaced online. The three members (Machado, Luster and Verduzco) accuse drummer Chavarri, who acted as the manager of Ill Niño, of shady business, embezzlement of funds and abuse of power. Chavarri is said to have failed to pay various business partners, including the tour bus rental company, the merchandise manufacturer, the sound engineer and the mixer.
Exactly one year later, in March 2020, the quarrels about the band name were finally ended. This enables Dave Chavarri (drums) and Lazaro Pina (bass) to continue as Ill Niño, while Christian Machado (vocals) and the two guitarists Diego Verduzco and Ahrue Luster will continue with new projects and have left the band.
