Impora is a town in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Impora is the central place of the canton Impora in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Las Carreras in the province of Sud Cinti . Impora is located at an altitude of 2602  m in a basin on the Río Papa Chajra , which flows eight kilometers east of Impora near Socpora into the Río San Juan del Oro . Directly west of Impora rises at an altitude of 2,700 m, an extension of the Cordillera de Mochara ridge , which rises in its central areas to 4,500 m.

Impora is located in the southern part of the Bolivian Altiplano on the northeast edge of the Cordillera de Lípez . The climate is semi-arid , the pronounced dry season lasts for more than half of the year.

The 81 kilometer long unpaved highway Ruta 20 runs through Impora, which leads from Las Carreras on Ruta 1 in the east to Hornillos on Ruta 14 in the west.

The Ruta 1 crosses the entire Bolivian high mountain region from north to south and leads from the Peruvian border on Lake Titicaca via El Alto , Oruro , Potosí , Camargo , Las Carreras and Tarija to Bermejo on the Argentine border in the south.
