The paved highway Ruta 1 leads from Lake Titicaca in the north to the Argentine border in the south and crosses the cities of El Alto , Oruro and Potosí . From Potosí it leads 37 kilometers south to Cuchu Ingenio , where Route 14 branches off in a south direction and leads via Vitichi , Tumusla , Cotagaita and Ramadas to Hornillos and further south to Villazón on the Argentine border.

In Hornillos , the Ruta 20 road branches off to the east, which crosses the deserted Cordillera de Mochara and leads via Impora to Las Carreras in the Sud Cinti province in the Chuquisaca department , where it meets Ruta 1 .
