The Municipio Tupiza is a district in the Department of Potosí in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The municipality Tupiza is one of two municipalities in the province of Sur Chichas . It borders in the north on the province of Nor Chichas , in the west on the municipality Atocha and the province Nor Lípez , in the southwest on the province Sur Lípez , in the south on the Republic of Argentina and the province Modesto Omiste , in the southeast on the department Tarija , and to the east to the Chuquisaca department .
It extends for 130 kilometers in an east-west direction and 100 kilometers in a north-south direction. The main town of the municipality is the city of Tupiza in the center of the municipality.

The municipality of Tupiza is located in the southern part of the barren plateau of the Bolivian Altiplano . The region's climate is cool and dry because of its inland location and is characterized by a typical daytime climate, in which the temperature fluctuations between day and night are usually significantly greater than the seasonal fluctuations (see Tupiza climate diagram).
The annual average temperature is 13 ° C and fluctuates only slightly between 8 ° C in June / July and 16 ° C from December to February. The annual precipitation is only about 300 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 60 to 80 mm monthly precipitation.

The life expectancy of newborns is 65 years. 47 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 69 percent live without sanitary facilities.
