Ingo J. Biermann (born 1979 or 1983 in Stuttgart ) is a German filmmaker . He usually appears as IJ.Biermann , in his function as a producer and when mentioned in the title sequences of some films as IJB .

Life

Biermann began his career in the film sector with experimental films and as a collaborator with directors such as Rosa von Praunheim and television productions such as Network Movie , before making his directorial debut in 2002 with Zwischen Flieder wandern und singen (with Maxim Mehmet and Miriam Glinka). This was followed by short films and half-length feature films such as Coda and Deed Poll (with Barbara Kowa and André Schneider ), which also received international attention. From 2004 he studied at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin under director Hartmut Bitomsky with Claire Denis , Andres Veiel and Christian Petzold . Films by him have since been broadcast on ARTE , RBB and WDR or were made in co-production with these stations.

In 2008, Biermann directed the feature film Faust under the mentorship of Béla Tarr . The first part of the tragedy , an adaptation of Johann Wolfgang Goethe 's classic tragedy of the same name with Adolfo Assor and Robert Gwisdek in the leading roles. His short film Geliebte received the rating "particularly valuable" from the German Film and Media Evaluation Office in 2009 and was presented by German Films in May 2010 during the International Film Festival in Cannes. Biermann has directed around 30 short, half-length and full-length feature films.

Most recently he worked mainly in the documentary field, shooting the documentary Nocturne from 2008 to 2009 about the work of the Kairos Quartet , which has specialized in music since 1950 , and in 2010 the feminist film Nine Women about nine artists between 25 and early 30s, including the director Lisa Nielebock , the media artist Manuela Kasemir, the author Elisabeth Rank and the composer Birke J. Bertelsmeier .

From spring 2010 to summer 2013 Biermann shot the documentary film Voice about the composer , performance artist and jazz musician Maja Ratkje in a German-Norwegian co-production . At the same time, Biermann shot a tour or concert film about the joint European tour ( Black Oyster Tour ) of the two Norwegian electronic and experimental musicians Alexander Rishaug and Erik Skodvin alias Svarte Greiner.

In summer 2012 Biermann shot the feature film Nordland in Northern Norway , a road movie from Kirkenes , Norway's easternmost city , to Å , at the end of  Lofoten . The film, funded by the Filmförderungsanstalt , was the first official production by his own company Myrland Films, in coproduction with the Zurich-based filmmakers Gabriel Baur and Iliana Estañol. Odine Johne was awarded the Young Actor Award at the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Film Festival in May 2014 for her portrayal of the leading role .

Biermann produced several documentary films for the Berlin Academy of the Arts , including short films about the Kunsthaus Graz and the Radialsystem in Berlin, which were presented at several architecture film festivals after the exhibition, as well as a series of ten documentary films about conversations with actors about the moment of acting . The thirty-minute films each deal with conversations with Sepp Bierbichler , Edith Clever , Maren Eggert , Jens Harzer , Fabian Hinrichs , Sandra Hüller , Signa Köstler , Ulrich Matthes , Joachim Meyerhoff and Wiebke Puls , which took place from September to December 2014 as part of the exhibition for Academy focus swindle of reality can be seen in the academy and were published in September 2014 in the form of a 2-DVD edition.

Occasionally Biermann worked as a cameraman for other filmmakers, as well as for concert recordings of bands and music festivals, v. a. in Norway (e.g. Punkt , Tape To Zero ), and as a director of music videos (e.g. Simonne Jones).

In addition to his work in the film sector, Biermann is also active as a writer for the magazine Stereo and the web magazine Nordische Musik , where he writes reviews, reports and interviews about the Scandinavian music scene.
