Inspector Fowler - Harder Than the Police Allowed (English: The Thin Blue Line ) is a sitcom produced in 1995 and 1996 by Tiger Aspect Productions in the UK , starring Rowan Atkinson .
action
Police Inspector (in Germany roughly a police superintendent) Raymond Fowler is the head of the police station in the fictional English town of Gasforth. He is a very conscientious police officer who loves his job. Fowler always interprets laws and regulations extremely meticulously, just as important to him are an impeccable appearance, good manners and a well-chosen language. Since his employees and colleagues have a rather lax attitude in these matters, Fowler is constantly forced to admonish and teach. Sometimes he talks himself so furiously that he makes a fool of himself towards his colleagues. Fowler isn't too popular with them because of his nitpicking. Fowler's private life also suffers from his pedantic manner and from the fact that he puts his job above everything and overlooks or ignores the (sexual) wishes of his partner and colleague Police Sergeant Patricia Dawkins. Fowler also has a son from a previous (failed) marriage.
Fowler's closest collaborators are the three Police Constables Goody, Habib and Gladstone. Constable Kevin Goody is a young, very incompetent cop. With his childish, clumsy manner, he often gets on the nerves of his colleagues, above all Constable Habib, with whom Goody is in love and who keeps pissing them off with his awkward advances. Constable Maggie Habib is a young, attractive and intelligent police officer. She's got used to blocking Goody's advances, but she also feels a little sorry for him. Third in the league is the older and very experienced Constable Gladstone. He comes from Trinidad and can already look back on a long police career. Since he thinks he has already seen everything in his job, hardly anything disturbs him. In investigative work, he usually excels with irrelevant, strange, or sexist comments, much to the irritation of his superior Fowler.
There is a certain rivalry between the uniformed police officers and the criminal police. Especially with Detective Inspector (detective inspector) Derek Grim, the head of the Criminal Police (CID) of Gasforth, there are often friction. He is choleric and often gets bogged down in incoherent tirades of ranting outbursts. Grim thinks police officers are superior to their uniformed colleagues, which often leads to arguments with Inspector Fowler. His wish to be promoted to Scotland Yard and leave Gasforth is never fulfilled for Grim, as he is a rather inept criminalist. Detective Constable Kray is Inspector Grim's closest collaborator in episodes 1 through 7. From episode 8 he is replaced by Detective Constable Boyle.
