InterAction Council
The InterAction Council ( IAC for short ) is a loose association of former heads of state and government founded in 1983 by the late Japanese Prime Minister Takeo Fukuda . According to Loki Schmidt , Takeo Fukuda and the former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt came up with and planned the InterAction Council.
purpose
The members, exclusively former holders of the highest government offices, should be able to pass on their experience and knowledge. International cooperation in the areas of peace and security, the global economy, and development and the environment is to be strengthened through problem analyzes and recommended solutions that are sent directly to high-ranking decision-makers. A meeting takes place annually, which draws up a final declaration.
In 1987, at Fukuda's suggestion, a meeting between political and religious leaders of the five major world religions took place in Rome for the first time. There the so-called statement on global issues was written, which drew four basic conclusions:
- The newly established contacts should be maintained,
- real peace can only be achieved through dialogue due to the common values,
- humanity should strive for a “balanced economic structure” to eradicate global poverty and
- the shared responsibility of women and men for development, the environment and family planning are emphasized.
In 1997 the InterAction Council proposed a “ Universal Declaration of Human Duties ” to supplement the Universal Declaration of Human Rights . The design was formulated by Hans Küng in connection with his Global Ethic project . However, it did not find broad support. The western states in particular rejected this, sometimes categorically.
