Ira May (born September 24, 1987 ; real name Iris Bösiger ) is a Swiss soul singer . She is under contract with Universal Music Switzerland . With her first album The Spell , she was able to classify herself at number 1 on the Swiss charts .

biography

Ira May grew up near Basel and came into contact with various musical genres there at an early age . She began taking piano lessons at the age of eight, and classical singing was added a little later .

Among other things, she took part in the school choir in Gelterkinden with the Swiss singers Baschi and Sarah-Jane . In 2002 she took part in the Swiss talent show MusicStar . At the age of 19 she began training in classical singing at the Basel Music Academy , but after two years she switched to jazz school . In the meantime, she wrote her own songs and performed at her first concerts in different bands . In addition, she completed an apprenticeship as a retail specialist in a Basel music store. In 2012 Ira May worked on the Basel rap project 1 City 1 Song , initiated by rapper Black Tiger , and sang the last verse of the song there, which made SRF Black Music editor Sascha Rossier's attention. In the meantime she was contacted by the German producer Shuko , who invited her to his studio to edit her songs there and thus produce her first studio album. In the summer of 2013, the first single Let You Go was broadcast for the first time on the Swiss radio station SRF 3 . The accompanying clip was made in London and Brighton . The single was able to rank in the Swiss single charts for a week.

On January 24, 2014, Ira May released her first studio album, The Spell, via Peripherique Records, which immediately made it to number one on the Swiss charts. As the only guest musician who was Briton Ty represented. The year 2014 was marked by numerous appearances at festivals and open air events as well as in various clubs in Germany and abroad. After that, Ira May retired to work on her second album - again with producer Shuko at her side. The album Eye of the Beholder was released on September 23, 2016.
