Irina Alexejewna Abyssowa ( Russian Ирина Алексеевна Абысова , also: Abysova ; born November 7, 1980 in Moscow ) is a former Russian marathon swimmer and triathlete , two-time Olympic athlete (2008, 2012), five-time national triathlon champion (2003-2014), member (2003-2014) of the Russian national team and aquathlon world champion (2013).
Career
At the age of six, Irina Abyssova began her career as a high-performance athlete when she was accepted into the swimming department of the so-called "Olympic Village" (Олимпийская деревня) in Moscow.
As a 13-year-old she entered the sports school "Pioneer Palace" (Дворец пионеров) and came two years later to the set up for the training of Olympic athletes elite МССУОР (Московское среднее специальное училище олимпийского резерва, or according to other sources: Московское специальное спортивное училище олимпийского резерва), which she was awarded the “red diploma” in 1999, meanwhile as the “master of sport” (мастер спорта), before finally transferring to the prestigious Moscow Sports University РГАФК (now: РГУФКСиТ).
In 2002 Abyssova switched to triathlon after she had won the silver medal in the 10 km marathon swimming at the World Championships in Fukuoka the year before, when the end of her swimming career became apparent.
Triathlon state champion 2003
Only one year later she was already a Russian triathlon champion, married the professional triathlete Igor Syssojew (* 1980), joined the Moscow sports club Ozërki (СК Озерки), completed her sports studies and became a mother in 2004, was able to do her triathlon However, continue your career successfully.
In 2005 she won the Russian Winter Triathlon Championship and in 2006 she was also active in the German Triathlon Championship as an elite reinforcement for the TUS Griesheim .
2008 Summer Olympics
While her husband Igor Syssojew finished ninth at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Abyssova was injured after a serious bicycle fall and had to take a six-month break.
In 2009, the French triathlon club TOC Cesson Sevigne Abyssowa led among its elite legionnaires, but Abyssowa does not seem to have participated in French races or the club championship Lyonnaise des Eaux . In the eight years from 2003 to 2010 Abyssowa took part in 51 ITU competitions and achieved 16 top ten placements.
Abyssova opened the 2011 season with a gold medal in Cyprus, where the Russian triathletes had set up their training camp. At the Volkswagen Aldiana Triathlon (March 27, 2011) Abyssowa won gold in the Olympic distance. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she finished 13th in London .
World Champion Aquathlon 2013
In August 2013 she became Russian Vice-Triathlon Champion and in September in London Aquathlon World Champion.
In July 2014 she became the Russian state champion at the Olympic distance. Abyssova has not appeared internationally since 2014. Their second daughter was born in March 2015.
Abyssova lives in Moscow with her husband Igor and their two daughters .
