history

After the LDP chairman and prime minister Shinzō Abe was re-elected party chairman on September 8, 2015, the then non-attached Minister of State for National Strategic Special Zones, Shigeru Ishiba, announced that he wanted the "Liaison Conference of Non-attached Members " ( 無派閥 連絡 会 Muhabatsu Renrakukai ) and found a faction of their own. On September 28, the name of the faction, Suigetsukai , was announced. He was selected by an abbot ( 住 職 , Jūshoku ) of one of the Rinzai-shū temples in Taitō and comes from the sentence Suigetsudōjō ni zasu ( 水月 道場 に 坐 す , about "put into Suigetsu- Dōjō ") from the Zen language. It is made up of the Kanji " " ( sui or mizu , including "water") and " " ( getsu or tsuki , including "moon") and should mean something like "meet the demands of the age with pure mind". Since Ishiba had opposed the pronounced factionalism of the LDP in his time as general secretary of the LDP, he was criticized within the party for the faction formation and as a result, among other things, not by related parties such. B. Yasukazu Hamada supports. Nonetheless, 20 members of the Suigetsukai finally joined, which is important because the candidacy for the election of the chairman of the LDP requires nominations of at least 20 members.
