Ivan Anguélov

Ivan Anguélov (born July 17, 1942 in Kavala , Greece ) is a Bulgarian conductor .

Live and act

From 1962 to 1969 Ivan Anguélov studied conducting with Vladi Simeonov and composition with Alexander Raytchev at the Music Academy in Sofia . He completed master classes with Igor Markevitch in Monte-Carlo (1971–1973) and with Kiril Kondrashin in Moscow (1974–1975). Also from 1974 to 1975 he was an intern at the Bavarian State Opera with Wolfgang Sawallisch and Carlos Kleiber in Munich .

In 1970 Anguélov was one of the founders of Jeunesse Musicale in Bulgaria and the founder of the chamber orchestra of the same name. With this he made guest appearances in Bulgaria, France, Belgium and Hungary. He was visiting professor at the Sofia Music Academy (1970–1981). As a conductor he led the Pleven Symphony Orchestra (1973–1974) and from 1974 was conductor at the Plovdiv National Opera , where he was chief conductor from 1979 to 1981.

He then worked as chief conductor in Biel / Bienne (1981–1985) and in Lausanne (1985–1989). He was the initiator and director of the Acadia Summer Orchestra Academy for young musicians from Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania) in Switzerland (1989–1991). In 1989 and 1990 he worked as conductor of the ballet of the Monte Carlo Opera and conducted concerts and CD recordings with the Orchester Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo .

In 1990 he was a conductor at the Bonn Opera , where he led the Beethoven Hall orchestra . As a guest conductor, he traveled through Europe.

From 1994 to 1998 he took on the position of chief conductor of the Slovak National Opera in Bratislava and from 1998 to 2007 he was permanent guest conductor of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. In addition, from 2002 to 2007 he was a permanent guest conductor of the Leipzig Opera of the Gewandhaus Orchestra . Since 2007 he has been working as a freelance conductor with international commitments.

Ivan Anguélov has worked with directors such as Robert Carsen , Johannes Schaaf , Pier Luigi Pizzi , Uwe Laufenberg and artists such as Edita Gruberová , Éva Marton , Piero Cappuccilli , Neil Shicoff , Margaret Price , Grace Bumbry , Joan Pons , Gösta Winbergh , Anna Tomowa -Sintow , Sergej Larin , Paata Burtschuladze and Zoran Todorowich .

Anguélov has released more than 30 recordings with the Orchester Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo , the Berlin Symphony Orchestra , the Lausanne Opera Orchestra, the Stuttgart Philharmonic , the Nuremberg Symphony, the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Sofia Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Anguélov composed the music for several television films - including Omega 25 , Significance moment , Flucht mit Lucifer and created new orchestrations for small orchestras such as pictures at an exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky .
