Ivan Brenčun (born August 30, 1991 in Zagreb , SR Croatia ) is a Croatian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the KHL Medveščak Zagreb since 2009 and has played with the club in the International Hockey League since 2017 .

Career

Ivan Brenčun began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of the KHL Mladost Zagreb , for whose first team he was active in the neighboring Slovenian ice hockey league from 2008 to 2009 . The attacker then moved to his city neighbor KHL Medveščak Zagreb , who had been accepted into the Austrian ice hockey league for the 2009/10 season . However, Brenčun was used in the club's second team, which played in the Croatian league and with which he became Croatian champions continuously from 2010 to 2017 . In the 2010/11 season he was also used in the Slohokej League in Team Zagreb , a cooperation between the two Zagreb clubs Medveščak and Mladost. Since 2017 he has been playing with his team in the International Hockey League .

During the 2018/19 season he also played a few games for the club in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga .

International

For Croatia , Brenčun took part in the division II tournaments of the U-18 World Championships in 2008 and 2009 and the U-20 World Championship in 2009, as well as the Division I tournaments of the U-20 World Championships in 2010 and 2011 .

In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad for the first time at the Olympic qualifying tournaments for the 2014 Winter Olympics in September and November 2012. The Croatians were able to win the pre-qualification, but were eliminated in the first qualifying round after three defeats. At the Division II World Cup in 2013 in Zagreb at home , Brenčun and his team were promoted to Division I after five wins in five games. There he took second place in Group B right away with the team from the Balkans in 2014 one point behind A-group promoted Poland . Also in 2015 , 2017 and 2018 he played for Croatia in Division I. He also represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
