Ivan Turina (born October 3, 1980 in Zagreb , SFR Yugoslavia , † May 2, 2013 in Solna ) was a Croatian football player . The goalkeeper , who played an international match for the Croatian national team , played in Croatia, Greece, Poland and Sweden over the course of his career.
Career
Club career
Turina was considered one of the best young goalkeepers in Croatia. He came to Dinamo Zagreb from the amateur club NK Dubrava Zagreb . When he played for NK Dubrava, he only conceded one goal in one season. For Dinamo Zagreb, Turina played a league game in the 1st HNL for the first time in the 1998/99 season . He moved to NK Croatia Sesvete in 1999/00 and immediately thereafter played the 2000/01 season again for Dinamo Zagreb. This was followed by a move to Kamen Ingrad in 2001/02, and in 2002/03 to NK Osijek . From the 2003 season, Turina was signed again by Dinamo Zagreb and remained eligible to play until 2007.
In the summer of 2007, Turina moved abroad when the Greek football club Skoda Xanthi signed him . In the same year he received the award for the best Croatian goalkeeper of the year. Initially a regular goalkeeper in Alpha Ethniki , he lost the place between the posts over the course of the season after a few weaker performances to the Austrian Michael Gspurning, who was originally signed as a substitute goalie . Therefore, a year later, at the end of the season, he changed clubs again and went to the Polish football club Lech Posen .
After a year and a half in Poland, during which he was unable to establish himself as a regular, he terminated his contract with Lech Posen in autumn 2009. He then returned to his home country in January and joined Dinamo Zagreb again until the end of the season. Here again only the role of the substitute was left to him, as he could not oust Tomislav Butina . Therefore, after a half series in the summer of 2010, he accepted an offer from the Swedish club AIK . There he replaced the Finn Tomi Maanoja , who had some unfortunate scenes in the first games of the season, as a regular goalkeeper and made his debut in mid-July after the summer break in the Allsvenskan . First regular player of last year's double winners in relegation battle , coach Alex Miller replaced him after a 4-1 defeat in a league game against Trelleborgs FF in September by Kyriakos Stamatopoulos . Since this was not able to convince, Turina returned in mid-October and helped keep the team in the last games of the 2010 season . Turina was AIK's goalkeeper from then on.
In February 2013 Turina extended its contract until 2016. He played his last game of 89 competitive games for AIK on April 22, 2013 against Gefle IF . Shortly before the end of the game, he had to be replaced due to a thigh injury.
National team
Ivan Turina was appointed in 2006 by the Croatian national soccer coach Zlatko Kranjčar in the squad of the Croatian national team for a tournament in Hong Kong, where he played his only international match for his home country. He was previously in the U-17 , U-19 and U-20 age groups .
death
Turina died on the night of May 1st, 2013. He was found dead in his bed at home. There is no evidence of a criminal offense. Turina had a congenital heart defect that was known to his club. Otherwise the goalkeeper was healthy. He left behind his pregnant wife and two one-year-old twin daughters.
