Tomi Maanoja (born September 12, 1986 in Espoo ) is a Finnish football player . The goalkeeper made his debut for the Finnish national team in 2009 .

Career

Maanoja started playing soccer at Vantaan Jalkapalloseura . From the club known for its youth work, he moved to AC Allianssi , for whom he mainly sat on the bench as a substitute behind Henri Sillanpää . In the 2005 season he came to two missions in the Veikkausliiga . At the end of the season he moved within the league to promoted FC Honka . Also here in his first year mainly a substitute, he reached fourth place in the table with the club at the side of Roni Porokara , Hermanni Vuorinen and Hannu Patronen . In the following season he stayed with the club in the front division and reached the cup final. Against champions Tampere United it was 3: 3 draw after extra time, on penalties he and the team around Janne Saarinen , Nicholas Otaru , Ville Jalasto and Tuomo Turunen got the short straw. Nevertheless, she qualified for the 2008/09 UEFA Cup .

In the summer of 2008 Maanoja moved abroad and signed a contract with the traditional Swedish club AIK . There he delivered after the departure of Daniel Örlund , who went on loan to Norway, with Nicklas Bergh a duel for the regular place between the posts. After he initially had to take a seat on the bench, he was on the field for the first time in the Allsvenskan on August 16 that year in the 1-1 draw against GIF Sundsvall . Established as a regular player, he played a total of twelve games by the end of the 2008 season . As a result, he moved into the circle of the national team. At the beginning of 2009, national coach Stuart Baxter used him for the first time in their 5-1 loss to Japan .

In a preparation game for the 2009 season against Assyriska Föreningen , Maanoja broke his leg at the end of February 2009, so that he was out until the end of the year and thus also missed the U-21 European Championship in the summer of that year. Therefore, he was inherited by the returnee Örlund as a regular goalkeeper and at best contributed morally to winning the double of the championship title and the national cup . After Örlund left the club again at the end of 2009, Maanoja once again became a regular at AIK. Before the start of the following season, he contributed to the game for the Supercup in March 2010 to the first title win of the year by remaining clean in the 1-0 win over IFK Göteborg with a goal by Antônio Flávio . In the further course of the season, however, he acted partially unhappy, so that the club, which was in danger of relegation, signed the Croatian goalkeeper Ivan Turina as the new number one in the summer . After unsuccessful trial training in the Netherlands, he returned to Sweden, but had now slipped behind Kyriakos Stamatopoulos to the club's third goalkeeper.

Maanoja left AIK in January 2011 and returned to Finland to join FC Honka again.
