Ivan Grigorievich Kamenski , born Ioann Grigoryevich Kamenski , ( Russian Иван Григорьевич Каменский , maiden name Russian Иоанн Григорьевич Каменский ; born September 26 . Jul / 8. October  1857 greg. In the village Danilicha, now a part of the Permian ; † 14. March 1919 in Perm ) was a Russian entrepreneur and patron .

Life

Kamensky, son of entrepreneur Grigory Kosmich Kamensky , began studying at the Moscow Academy of Commerce in 1876 with a gold medal from the Perm Gymnasium . He completed his studies at the University of Bonn with a master's degree in chemistry and a doctorate in philosophy .

Kamenski ran a timber industry and set up a factory in Perm Governorate for the production of acetone and methanol by dry distillation of wood. In 1893 Kamenski became the manager of the iron goods factories in the villages of Tis and Moljobka near Perm and owner of the Suksun copper smelter . In Suksun, he acquired the house that used to belong to the Demidows and is now the Suksun District Museum.

In 1894 Kamenski became an honorary member of the governorate board of trustees for children's homes, like his father before. In 1906 he became a member of the State Council for the Perm Zemstvo . In 1908 he had the Church of Our Lady of Kazan built in the Assumption Women's Convent founded by his father . The iconostasis was painted by Nicholas Roerich , with whom Kamenski's sister, who lived in St. Petersburg , was friends. In 1909 Kamensky became honorary curator of the Perm Alexei Realschule. He promoted handicraft production, especially the production of samovars . He became an honorary citizen of the city of Perm. In 1914 he sold the family company, brothers F. and G. Kamenski, to Nikolai Wassiljewitsch Meschkow . In 1916 Kamenski donated scholarships to the new Perm University . After the October Revolution he was expropriated and lived in a Perm brothel .

Kamensky was married to Lidija Nikolajewna nee Ilyina, whose portrait Valentin Alexandrowitsch Serow painted in 1911. By marriage he was related to the Stroganovs . Kamensky was buried in the family vault in the Church of Our Lady of Kazan of the Assumption Women's Convent.
