The Mertloch Jewish cemetery in Mertloch , a local community in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate , is a protected cultural monument . It is 500 meters after leaving the village in the direction of Naunheim, on the left, surrounded by fields.

history

The Jewish communities in Mertloch, Polch and the surrounding area initially buried their dead in the Jewish cemetery in Wierschem . In 1868 the Jewish families from Gappenach , Kollig , Mertloch, Münstermaifeld , Naunheim, Pillig , Polch and Wierschem bought a plot of land in the Mertloch district and set up a Jewish cemetery there. Today there are still around 70 tombstones ( Mazewot ), but it is noticeable that many tombstones no longer have an inscription plate.
