Jürgen Schmidt-Radefeldt

Jürgen Schmidt-Radefeldt (born March 1, 1939 in Stettin , Pomerania ) is a German Romance scholar and linguist ( French , Lusitan , Hispanic ).

Career

After graduating from the Johanneum zu Lübeck (1959), Schmidt-Radefeldt studied Romance studies , English , German and philosophy ( humanities ) at the Universities of Hamburg (1959–1962 with Hans Blumenberg , Michel Foucault and Jean-Marie Zemb ), Montpellier (1962/63 ) and Kiel (1963-1965). At the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel he did his doctorate on the subject of language theory by Paul Valéry under Harald Weinrich (1965), and in 1979 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the dialogue theory of question and answer in Romance languages ​​(commission Christoph Schwarze, Helmut Lüdtke and others) and became a private lecturer at the CAU. Schmidt-Radefeldt began his professional career as a university lecturer from 1967 to 1970 as a DAAD lecturer for German studies at the Universidade Classica in Lisbon . He then became an assistant in Romance studies in Kiel (1970–1974), and gave back his habilitation grant from the DFG to take on a C3 professorship for French and didactics at the Kiel University of Education. In 1992/93 he was appointed the founding professorship in Romance studies at the University of Rostock , which he held until his retirement in 2004.

From 1983–1993 he took on the role of expert at the DAAD in the selection of German lecturers for Ibero-Roman universities. Together with Karl Alfred Blüher , he founded the research and documentation center on Paul Valéry at the University of Kiel in 1986 ; Both have published the yearbook <Research on Paul Valéry / Recherches Valéryennes> ( ISSN  0934-5337 ) since 1987 . Schmidt-Radefeldt has been a corresponding member of the CNRS ( ITEM Institut des textes et manuscrits modern ) in Paris since 1987 ; He was visiting professor at various Portuguese, Brazilian and French universities. In 1990 he and other translators from Paul Valéry's Cahiers received the Paul Celan Prize of the German Literature Fund. In 1995 he held four Leçons for Rétrospective de Paul Valéry at the Collège de France . Since 2016 he is corr. Member of the Academia das Ciêinas de Lisboa.

Together with other linguistic colleagues, he publishes the 'Rostocker Romanistische Werke' in Peter Lang Verlag ( ISSN  1437-3130 ); From volume 19, these are continued under the series name 'Romance works intercultural and interdisciplinary'.

His son Roman Schmidt-Radefeldt (* 1969) is a lawyer (international law, European / international law), his daughter Ariane is a French / German teacher.
