Kolk made his debut in 2009 and then published seven volumes of poetry and two volumes of prose in rapid succession within seven years. With this he has "... quietly but surely moved to the center of Estonian literature", as his fellow writer Peeter Helme put it in a review. In the same review, the critic pointed out that Kolk need not shy away from comparisons with Lauri Pilter , Jan Kaus or Mait Vaik - with regard to his prose.

His relatively late debut - he belongs to a generation with z. B. Karl Martin Sinijärv , Jan Kaus , or Mehis Heinsaar , who went public much earlier - can be explained using two statements from an interview with the author: “It's not that I wanted to be a writer, I knew that I'll be a writer. ”But:“ Reading texts by people under thirty is not worth it. ”Meanwhile, the author is characterized as“ one of the best representatives of resignation poetry in Estonian poetry ”, as his poetry is often characterized by cynicism and a black one and bleak humor. At the same time, his tone is also described as "calm and narrative", which makes it a counterpart to the loud Jürgen Rooste . His prose is also highly praised by colleagues and compared, for example, with Mati Unts .

Since many of Kolk's books were published by Sven Kivisildnik's publisher Jumalikud Ilmutused , parallels were drawn with this poet, which the author himself refuses in the interview mentioned:
