John James "Jack" McGrath (born October 8, 1919 in Los Angeles , California , United States , † November 6, 1955 in Phoenix . Arizona , United States) was an American racing driver .

Career

Jack McGrath won the first California Roadster Association Championship, a track roadster championship, in 1946. McGrath competed eight times at the Indianapolis 500 . He achieved two podium finishes, in 1951 and 1954 when he was third each. In 1954, he also started the race from pole position .

Since the Indianapolis 500 was part of the Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 to 1960 , McGrath has six races in the Formula 1 statistics. He scored a total of nine world championship points.

McGrath had a fatal accident in the last race of the 1955 season in Phoenix.
