At the same time, he played regularly in series, with his most important roles, those of Lt. Howard Hunter, whom he played in 140 episodes of the Hill Street Police Station from 1981 to 1987 , and the character of Dr. David Howser, whom he impersonated in 90 episodes of Doogie Howser, MD , from 1989 to 1993 .
