James H. Williams

James Hunter "Jim" Williams (born June 17, 1926 in Ocala , Florida , † December 16, 2016 ) was an American politician . Between 1975 and 1979 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Florida.

Career

James Williams studied political science at the University of Florida . He later worked in Ocala in the real estate industry. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1974 he was elected lieutenant governor of Florida alongside Reubin Askew . He held this office between 1975 and 1979. He was Deputy Governor .

1978 Williams ran unsuccessfully in the Democratic primary for governor of Florida. In 1979, he was President Jimmy Carter Deputy US Agriculture Secretary ( Deputy Secretary of Agriculture ), replacing John C. White . He later continued his previous work in the real estate industry in Ocala. He also campaigned for environmental protection in his home country. He was a board member of an organization to protect Lake Weir , a lake in Marion County .
