Thomas Burton Adams Jr. (born May 11, 1917 in Jacksonville , Florida , † May 22, 2006 in Live Oak , Florida) was an American politician .

Career

After completing his school career, Adams enrolled at the University of Michigan . Shortly thereafter, he married Helen Brown. Adams worked in the real estate and insurance industries.

His political career began when he was elected to the Florida Senate. He was a member of this from 1956 to 1960. He then served as Secretary of State of Florida for ten years . In 1970 Adams was inducted into the campaign team of Reubin Askew , Democratic candidate for Florida governor . In the event of an election success, Askew promised him the post of lieutenant governor. Askew managed to prevail against the Republican candidate , Claude Roy Kirk . Adams became the second lieutenant governor of his home state after the re-establishment of this office in 1969. On January 5, 1971, he was sworn in.

Due to a scandal in Adams' personal life, Askew decided not to include him again in his campaign team for re-election, so that the end of his term on January 7, 1975 was sealed. In 1984 Adams tried a successful re-entry into political business when he ran for a seat in the Florida Senate, but could not prevail against Tim Deratany, who received twice as many votes as Adams.

On the morning of May 22, 2006, Adams was driving on Interstate 10 and had a fatal accident. As it turned out later, he was not buckled up.
