Live Oak is a city and also the county seat of Suwannee County in the US state of Florida with 6850 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Live Oak is located approximately 120 km east of Tallahassee and west of Jacksonville .
history
The railway age in what would later become Live Oak began at this point in 1861, when the Pensacola and Georgia Railroad completed a railway line from Tallahassee to Lake City . The same railway company built a branch from Live Oak further in the direction of Du Pont to the state border with Georgia until 1865 , which was finally shut down in 1984. The Town of Live Oak was officially established on April 24, 1878. In 1881, the Live Oak and Rowland's Bluff Railroad opened another railway line from Live Oak via High Springs to Gainesville , which was incorporated into the Plant System in 1884. The Live Oak and Gulf Railway also existed from 1895 to 1916 .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 6,850 inhabitants were distributed over 2,881 households. The population density was 232.2 inh / km². 54.4% of the population identified themselves as whites, 35.0% as African American , 0.5% as Indians and 1.0% as Asian Americans . 6.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.4% to several ethnic groups. 16.2% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 29.3% of all households lived in 36.7% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 64.1% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.17.
30.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 22.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 20.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 34 years. 49.0% of the population were male and 51.0% were female.
The median annual income was $ 24,065, with 38.4% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 91.97% of the population and Spanish was spoken by 8.03%.

Live Oak is crossed by US Highways 90 ( SR 10 ) and 129 and Florida State Road 51 . The nearest airport is Valdosta Regional Airport (around 70 km northwest).

The crime rate in 2010 was 494 points (US average: 266 points) in the high range. There were three rapes, 18 robberies, 52 assaults, 150 break-ins, 182 thefts and twelve car thefts.
