Branford is a city in Suwannee County in the US state of Florida with 712 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Branford is about 35 km south of Live Oak on the east bank of the Suwannee River . Jacksonville is approximately 120 km east and Tallahassee is 140 km west of the city.
history
In 1881 the Live Oak and Rowland's Bluff Railroad opened a railway line from Live Oak via Branford and High Springs to Gainesville , which was incorporated into the Plant System in 1884.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 712 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 441 households. The population density was 339.0 inh / km². 80.2% of the population identified themselves as whites , 6.9% as African American , 0.8% as Indians and 1.7% as Asian Americans . 7.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.4% to several ethnic groups. 13.2% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 37.9% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 28.2% of all households. 66.8% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.57 people and the average family size was 3.06 people.
32.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 28.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 22.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 18.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 33 years. 48.6% of the population were male and 51.4% were female.
The median annual income was $ 33,426, with 25.7% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 92.13% of the population and 7.87% spoke Spanish .
