James Harrison (Governor)
Sir James William Harrison (born May 25, 1912 in Camperdown , State of Victoria , Australia , † September 16, 1971 on a flight to Honolulu ) was an Australian officer and Governor of South Australia .
Life
After graduating from the Royal Military College Duntroon in 1932, he took part in 1937-38 exercises in India and the Malay Peninsula . In 1940 he was promoted to captain . During the Second World War he was first used in the Middle East , and later in New Guinea and London , where he mainly performed staff duty .
In 1951, after the war, he was appointed commandant of the Portsea Cadet School and promoted to colonel . From 1959 to 1968 he held various managerial positions in the Australian Ministry of Defense in Canberra .
On December 4, 1968, he became Governor of South Australia. Due to several serious illnesses from April 1970, Harrison wanted to use the following year to recover. Harrison died suddenly on September 16, 1971 on a flight to Honolulu.
