James Morrison (singer)
James Morrison (born August 13, 1984 in rugby ; born James Morrison Catchpole ) is a British singer .
Life
As a baby, Morrison had severe whooping cough disease from which he nearly died. Inspired by a local celebrity, Morrison started playing the guitar at the age of 13. His uncle showed him how to play a blues riff. While he was in Porth near Newquay (county Cornwall lived), he began busking to play. For a few years he only sang songs by other musicians until he finally began to write his own songs. Some of the most influential singers who shaped his life included Otis Redding , Al Green , Cat Stevens , The Kinks and Van Morrison , among others . During a visit to Derby , Morrison came across a pub called Ryan's Bar that was having an open mic night . In the following two years he played there regularly and earned a real fan base. A local guitarist discovered him and worked with him on the first demos. Eventually he got a contract with Polydor Records .
Personal
Morrison lives with longtime girlfriend Gill in Hangleton, Hove, East Sussex. On September 10, 2008, their first child was born, a daughter named Elsie. When asked about this name, Morrison said: "My friend just said, 'I want to call her Elsie!", And then I just said,' Because of me! ' It's a rather classic name that will still suit her when she's an old lady. "
Music career
For Polydor, Morrison was initially to support Corinne Bailey Rae's debut tour musically. At the end of 2005, work began on his first album Undiscovered , which was released on July 31, 2006. It received consistently good reviews and was at the top of the UK album charts after just a week. It had sold over a million times by the end of 2006. Worldwide success achieved Morrison with his debut single You Give Me Something , which in the Netherlands second and in England reached five of the charts place. The second single, Wonderful World , also made it into the English top ten and was able to build on the success of You Give Me Something .
In 2007, Morrison was nominated for three BRIT Awards . He won in the Best British Male Solo Artist category . The other two nominations were for Best British Breakthrough Act and Best British Single . At the Concert for Diana on July 1, 2007 he played the songs Wonderful World and You Give Me Something in honor of the tenth anniversary of Princess Diana's death .
On September 29, 2008, Morrison's second album, Songs for You, Truths for Me , was recorded at Real World Studios by Peter Gabriel . During the development phase, Morrison worked with the US singer Jason Mraz , among others , on his album We Sing. We Dance. We steal things. he contributed to the title Details in the Fabric . On the lyrics to his album, Morrison also worked with Ryan Tedder , Martin Terefe, Martin Brammer and Steve Robson. He was also supported by Gary Barlow , with whom he wrote the song Save Yourself . From the end of October until the end of 2008, Morrison toured Europe .
The title Broken Strings , a duet with Nelly Furtado , was extracted from Morrison's second album and reached number one in the German single charts on January 30, 2009 .
In 2011 his third studio album The Awakening was released , which reached number 1 in the UK charts . The first single I Won't Let You Go reached number 1 in Austria. James Morrison himself describes The Awakening as his first real album:
“ My first two albums today feel more like practice rounds, like a few shots to warm up [...] and now I've finally passed the exam. In a way, it feels like this LP is my first real album. "
