James Obst (born August 3, 1990 in Adelaide , South Australia ) is a professional Australian poker player .

Personal

Fruit played chess in his childhood and youth and represented Australia three times in the World Junior Chess Championship . He lives in Adelaide .

Poker career

Obst started playing poker at the age of 14. He plays online under the nicknames Andy McLEOD ( PokerStars ) and TheFatFISH ( Full Tilt Poker ) . In 2008 he won a title at the World Championship of Online Poker . Obst has been taking part in renowned live tournaments since 2009 .

At the beginning of October 2009, Obst cashed in at the main event of the European Poker Tour in London and received around 20,000 US dollars for his 44th place . In October 2010, he finished second at the Main Event of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour in Melbourne for 124,000 Australian dollars . In mid-December 2010, Obst won the high roller event of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour in Sydney with a prize of 150,000 Australian dollars. At the A $ 100,000 Challenge of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship in Melbourne in late January 2011, he finished fifth for 200,000 Australian dollars. In June 2014 , Obst was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas and cashed four times, finishing tenth in the Poker Player's Championship and reaching a final table in the Seven Card Stud variant . Obst cashed eight times at the 2016 WSOP . He finished second in the HORSE Championship and finished 13th in the main event , which alone earned him nearly $ 700,000 in prize money. Because of these accomplishments, he came fourth in the WSOP Player of the Year ranking . In mid-June 2017 , Obst won the Razz Championship of the World Series of Poker , securing his first bracelet and a prize of over $ 250,000. At the 2018 WSOP , he reached the sixth day of the main event and finished in 46th place for more than $ 150,000 in prize money. At the end of July 2018, he announced via the short message service Twitter that he would give up his poker career. His goal is to compete as a tennis player at the Wimbledon Championships . Nevertheless, he continued to appear in poker tournaments and made ten money places at the 2019 WSOP .

In total, Obst has earned almost three million US dollars with poker in live tournaments.
