James Ponsoldt

James Adam Ponsoldt (* 1978 in Athens , Georgia ) is an American director , screenwriter , producer and actor .

Life and career

Ponsoldt was born in 1978 to James F. Ponsoldt and his wife Susan E. Teason. His grandfather was the artist William Teason. He has been married to Megan Hollaway since September 2010.

He studied at Yale University , where he received a bachelor's degree, and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University .

After making various short films, he made his first feature film, Off the Black , in 2006 with actors such as Nick Nolte , Trevor Morgan and Rosemarie DeWitt . His second feature film, Smashed, was devoted to the subject of alcoholism . Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul played the leading roles .

Ponsoldt's fourth feature film The End of the Tour premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival . The film records the interviews of journalist David Lipsky (played by Jesse Eisenberg ) with writer David Foster Wallace (played by Jason Segel ) during the promotional tour for the book Endless fun after.

In 2017, Ponsoldt was responsible for the direction, script and production of The Circle , the adaptation of the dystopian novel Der Circle by Dave Eggers .
