Jan Waldenström
Jan Gösta Waldenström (born April 17, 1906 in Stockholm , † December 1, 1996 in Malmö ) was a Swedish internist .

Jan Waldenström was the son of Henning Waldenström (1877–1972), professor of orthopedics at the Karolinska Institutet , and his wife Elsa Laurin (1870–1939). His paternal grandfather was Johan Waldenström (1839–1879), professor of practical medicine at Uppsala University . In his first marriage, Jan Waldenström was married to Elisabeth Waldenström (1908–2000) from 1932 to 1956. The couple had three sons and two daughters. In 1957 he married Karin Nordsjö (1918–1990). From this marriage two sons were born.
Life
Waldenström studied medicine at Uppsala University until 1933 . He then worked for a year at the Technical University of Munich in Hans Fischer 's laboratory . In 1937 he was in Uppsala with the work studies of porphyria doctorate . In 1947 Waldenström was appointed professor at Uppsala University. From 1949 until his retirement in 1972 he was a professor at Lund University and chief physician for internal medicine at the associated hospital in Malmö (Malmö Allmänna Sjukhus).
Act
After Waldenstrom is Waldenstrom (synonym "Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia") named a slowly progressive malignant lymphoma , associated with abnormal production of immunoglobulin M associated (IgM) and the B-cell - non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is counted. Jan Waldenström first described the disease in 1944 in a case report . In 1943 he described hyperglobulinaemica purpura , a coagulation disorder in paraproteinemia .
