Career
Hrdina comes from the offspring of HC Hradec Králové and decided in 1994 to move to North America. There he played between 1994 and 1996 in the Western Hockey League for the Seattle Thunderbirds and Spokane Chiefs . During the NHL Entry Draft 1995 he was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth round in a total of 128th place. 1996 Hrdina got his first professional contract with the Cleveland Lumberjacks from the International Hockey League . In the 1997/98 season he went on the ice for the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League . Between 1998 and 2003 he played exclusively for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League and was able to expand his points yield to 57 points by 2002.
In March 2003, the Pittsburgh Penguins exchanged him with François Leroux for Ramzi Abid , Dan Focht and Guillaume Lefebvre of the Phoenix Coyotes . A year later, in March 2004, the Coyotes sent him to the New Jersey Devils , who received Michael Rupp and a draft pick for it.
During the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season , Hrdina returned to Europe and played for HC Kladno in the Czech Extra League . In August 2005 he received a one-year contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets , for which he collected 33 scorer points in 75 NHL games.
After he received no new NHL contract in the summer of 2006, Hrdina was signed on August 28, 2006 by the HV71 from the Elitserien . The start of the contract was dated October 18, 2006, so that he received a tax-deductible six-month contract. Therefore, at the beginning of the 2006/07 season, he completed some games for HIFK Helsinki from the Finnish SM-liiga . After the end of the season he extended his contract for another two years. In 2008 he became Swedish champion with the HV71 .
After playing three games in the 2008/09 season , Hrdina underwent hip surgery due to persistent injury problems. Hrdina has not played a hockey game since the operation, but has not officially ended his career.
