Jan Volker Röhnert

Jan Volker Röhnert (born November 19, 1976 in Gera ) is a German literary scholar and author .

Life

Jan Volker Röhnert grew up in Oberndorf near Gera , studied literature , German as a foreign language , Romance languages and education at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . Stays abroad took him to Italy and France: in 1998 as a trainee at the Goethe Institute in Genoa and in 2000/01 as a foreign language assistant in Toulon . From 2003 to 2008 he taught literature as a research assistant at the FSU Jena. Between 2008 and 2010 he worked as a DAAD - Lecturer at the University of Sofia . In the 2011 winter semester he was appointed Heyne Junior Professor for Modern German Literature at the German Institute of the TU Braunschweig .

Röhnert writes poems and essays on poetry that have appeared in literary magazines and anthologies. He translated poetry from French and from American English. Since 2003 he has been a speaker at the literature workshop of the Young Literature Forum Hesse-Thuringia . In 2017 Röhnert became a member of the PEN Center Germany .

In 2001 he made his debut with the artist book Fragment zum French South 1 & 2 . In My Amazing Strangeness , he examined the work of Rolf Dieter Brinkmann , which had an influence on his work. His dissertation Medium and Metaphor. The film as a paradigm of poetry in the 20th century analyzes the influence of cinema on modern poetry. In his post-doctoral thesis Self-assertion , published in 2014, the author uses exemplary texts from Johann Wolfgang Goethe to Heinrich Heine, Theodor Fontane, Gottfried Benn and Ernst Jünger to Peter Handke to show that the modern genre of autobiography is closely linked to the depiction of war.
