Janty Yates

Janet “Janty” Yates (* 1950 ) is an American costume designer who, in addition to an Oscar for best costume design, won a Sierra Award from the Las Vegas Film Critics Society .

Life

Janty Yates began her career as a costume designer in the Hollywood film industry in 1981 with the film In The Beginning There Was Fire and has worked on the costume design of more than thirty films and television series to date .

At the 2001 Academy Awards she won the Oscar for best costume design for the monumental film Gladiator (2000) by Ridley Scott, starring Russell Crowe , Joaquín Phoenix and Connie Nielsen . She also won the Las Vegas Film Critics Society's Sierra Award for the costumes in the film. She also received nominations for the Saturn Award in 2001 , the British Academy Film Award for the best costumes , the Phoenix Film Critics Society (PFCS Award) for the best costume design and at the Satellite Awards 2000 for the Golden Satellite Award for the best Costume design.

For De-Lovely - The Cole Porter Story (2004) by Irwin Winkler with Kevin Kline , Ashley Judd and Jonathan Pryce , she was nominated for the Costume Designers Guild (CDG Award) for excellent costume design in 2005 and at the 2004 Satellite Awards for the best costume design. At the 2006 Goya Awards , she was nominated for the Goya for Best Costume Design for the monumental film Kingdom of Heaven (2005), also directed by Ridley Scott with Orlando Bloom , Eva Green and Jeremy Irons , and for a Satellite Award at the 2005 Satellite Awards .

In 2011, Janty Yates, who was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2006 , was again nominated for the Saturn Award for best costume, namely for Robin Hood (2010) by Ridley Scott with Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett and Mark Strong and also received a nomination for the Satellite Award for Best Costume Design at the 2010 Satellite Awards .

In 2014 she worked on the costume design of the film Prometheus - Dark Characters , directed by Ridley Scott with Noomi Rapace , Charlize Theron and Patrick Wilson , as well as on Scott's 2015 science fiction film The Martian - Save Mark Watney .
