Jaren Walter Jackson Jr. (born September 15, 1999 in Carmel ) is an American basketball player who has been under contract with the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA since 2018 .

career

Jackson's father, Jaren the Elder, was a professional basketball player for 13 years and was signed to NBA clubs including the Los Angeles Clippers , Washington Bullets , Portland Trail Blazers , San Antonio Spurs and Orlando Magic .

Jackson played at Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis and then at La Lumiere School in La Porte . He attracted the interest of talent scouts from numerous universities in the first NCAA division and ultimately enrolled at Michigan State University , where he was a teammate of German Gavin Schilling in the 2017/18 game year . Jackson played a total of 35 games for the Michigan State University team on the field and averaged 10.0 points per game. There were also 5.8 rebounds and three blocked throws. With the latter value, he was in seventh place within the first NCAA division.

At the beginning of April 2018, he announced that he would be giving up the remaining three regular years at the university and switching to the professional camp. When draft process  of the NBA  in June 2018 it chose the Memphis Grizzlies  from fourth. His first year in Memphis was overshadowed by a thigh injury, but after his move to the NBA he immediately became an important player for the team: Jackson started 56 times in his 58 appearances and averaged 13.8 points, 4, 7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per encounter.

In 2016, Jackson became the U17 world champion with the United States national team.
