Jennifer Natalya Pritzker (* 1950 as James N. Pritzker ) is an American entrepreneur , philanthropist and officer in the US Army. She is President and CEO of Tawani Enterprises , Inc., President of the Tawani Foundation, and Founder and Chairwoman of the Pritzker Military Museum & Library in Chicago . She is also Chairman and on the Board of Squadron Capital .

Life

Pritzker's parents are the Jewish Chicago entrepreneur Robert Pritzker , founder of the Marmon Group , and Audrey Gilbert. Her siblings are Linda Pritzker and Karen Pritzker .

1974 Pritzker joined the US Army as a private and served in the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg , North Carolina , where she rose to sergeant . Pritzker studied history at Loyola University Chicago (BA) and graduated from Command and General Staff College . In 1979 she became Second Lieutenant in the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell , Kentucky and then served in the VII Corps in the Kelley Barracks in Germany. She was in active service in the US Army until 1985. She then served in the United States Army Reserve and the Illinois Army National Guard for 16 years . She held various command posts. In 2001, she retired from the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was promoted to honorary colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard.

In 2000 and 2008 she took part in Antarctic expeditions (with Owen Kay Garriott , James Arthur Lovell and Birgit Sattler ).

Pritzker is u. a. Founder and benefactor of the Pritzker Military Library and namesake of the Pritzker Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing . She also serves on the board of the National Strategy Forum and the Leadership Council of the Program in Human Sexuality at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She is a former director of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, the Illinois National Guard and Militia Historical Society, and the Planetary Studies Foundation, and Trustee Emerita of Norwich University . In 2005 she received the Logan Patriot Award from the City of Chicago, an honorary degree in military science from Norwich University and in 2012 the Ladies Award from Loyola University Chicago .

The business magazine Forbes Magazine lists her with assets of around 1.9 billion US dollars (November 2017) on The World's Billionaires list , and she is also the first transgender billionaire in the world.

She is divorced and has three children from their marriage; since 2013 she appears as a woman .
