Bishop Jesús Fernández González

Jesús Fernández González (born September 15, 1955 in Selga de Ordás , Province of León ) is a Spanish clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Astorga .

Life

Jesús Fernández González received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of León on June 29, 1980 . After two years in pastoral care, he became a teacher and rector at the boys' seminary in the diocese. He then studied psychology at the Pontifical University of Salamanca from 1990 to 1992 and obtained a licentiate . From 1997 to 2003 he taught at the seminary of San Froilán and was at the same time pastor of Cuadros and parish administrator of Valsemana . In 2003 he was appointed Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Care and the Clergy . 2010 Bishop appointed him Julián López Martín the vicar general of the diocese of Leon.

On 10 December 2013 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Rotdon and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Santiago de Compostela . He was ordained episcopal on February 8th of the same year by the Archbishop of Santiago de Compostela, Julián Barrio Barrio . Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in Spain, Archbishop Renzo Fratini , and the Bishop of León, Julián López Martín. In the Spanish Bishops' Conference he heads the sub-commission for charitable work within the commission for pastoral tasks .

On June 8, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Astorga. The inauguration (enthronement) of Jesús Fernández González took place on July 18 of the same year.
